Our school was founded in 1949 in order to prepare students for the
university, above all in the scientific fields.
It's named after “Luigi Siciliani”, a renowed Calabrian poet who
lived during the I World War.
About 1600 students attend the school that is located in two different premises
both in the city centre.
The headmaster is Mr Francesco Latella who used to be a teacher of English, so that his
school is centred on the improvement of foreign-language teaching and on the
developing of an educational system which lets students become responsible and
actors of a European civilization tending towards social, ethical, cultural and
economical common values, coherent with traditions.
So, the school besides a national curriculum, offers a wide range of
extra-curricular activities and projects centred on specific areas like
communication, sociality, interculture, environment health, legality and so on.
As for the teaching management there are some departments related to different
teaching areas that decide year by year , teaching procedures, methodology and
assessment criteria.
The school is equipped with modern and efficient laboratories (Physics,
Chemistry ,Computering ,Science) combined use of media-multimedia.
Teaching staff :150
A.T.A. staff :30
The educational system is divided into four levels: the starting level is the
nursery school from 3 to 5 ; then pupils go to the primary school that is
divided into elementary and middle ; the next level is the secondary school that
covers different areas like classical , scientific , artistic , vocational ,
linguistic and technical studies.
At the end of the secondary cycle , students have their final exam and leave the
school with a Certificate to go to the university or to enter the working world.
Anyway we are going to have a reform that foresees a 7-years primary school
followed by a 5-years secondary school covering five areas ,and the innovation
is that students will be obliged to attend the school up to 16 and then they
will have to follow other educational paths to complete their formation.
